Students thoughts .........

...... and a peek at their art work too.

Gill WGill is a brilliant tutor, very patient, and always there to help, encourage and advise you.  We have  done some amazing projects, and learnt some really great techniques. We always really enjoy our classes and also have such a lot of fun painting and learning together and looking forward to our next projects.
Definitely 10 out of 10 every time. Thanks so much Gill

Debs HSo, I was struggling with poor mental health which was triggered by work related stress. A good friend treated me to a class as a bit of a pick me up.  I was in a really bad place at the time and I remember my shoulders being really tense at this session and you spotted this and encouraged me to relax.  The whole painting thing was really outside of my comfort zone and was quite nerve racking!  Over time I looked forward to my classes as a bit of “me time”.  I felt a great sense of achievement on completion of each project and my self confidence started to grow.  I found that this confidence was transferable into my work place.  I found a huge amount of strength from this.  My work situation improved as did my mental health.  I began to share my work with friends who were very complimentary.  My self confidence continued to grow, resulting in bigger achievements at work.  With your help and support, I painted a wedding present for my step-daughter and she loved it!  The best part though , is that I have made a great new friend!!

Sally C -   I had wanted to paint for a long time and often stared longingly at beautiful paintings online, but apart from a few pathetic attempts at school had never really picked up a brush. Then I saw Gill on a stall at an event I went to and paid £5 to paint a teddy bear door hanger with her.  It was the best £5 I have ever spent! Apart from the fact that it was quite therapeutic sitting there, painting away, while the world buzzed busily around us, I just couldn’t believe how brilliant my picture was and how easy she made it seem to do it.  Sure, it was a kids thing, but it was just so good!  So, I had to find out what else I could do and signed up for classes.  These are now my much looked forward to and highly treasured time for myself.  I did the first three courses to learn all the brushstrokes I would need and everything I needed was included in each lesson.  I even got to keep my brushes, so I could practice at home!  Each week there was a new, lovely project which I took home to impress my friends and family.  Then, super-excitement, she told me I could choose my next project!  I have painted such beautiful things and many now hang on other people’s walls as gifts.  With Gill, it’s never boring and there’s no judgement or criticism - just help if you want to learn and lots of laughter.  I love that her doors and ears are always open, but her mouth is firmly shut. What goes in the studio, stays in the studio.  It’s more than art lessons, it’s pure therapy.  As well as creating beautiful art, I made a wonderful friend.

Yvonne G -Gill is a wonderful and patient tutor, You can make something beautiful on your very first workshop. Thanks to Gill I enjoy using her techniques to enhance my chosen painting style. But be warned it can be addictive. Thank you Gill.

I have also been doing it for nearly 2 years now and have done  3 levels n also I’ve been doing freehand as well. Xxx

Yet again, another truly wonderful workshop held by Gill at our Studio.  Gill always manages to ensure her students feel comfortable, empowered and included in the entire process of their art project, as well as leaving with a huge sense of achievement, not to mention a great piece of art!

I am so grateful to Gill for choosing the Studio and the Devon School of Wellbeing as a place to share her art therapy.  She continues to be an incredibly popular teacher and we can’t wait until her next offering.
